Summer blockbuster predictions 2023
I am a bit late to do this as summer blockbuster time has already started. After listening to the Summer Movie Wager episode on the /Film, The Filmcast podcast, thought would do my own predictions. (And because I have started late, I have advantage as already 4 “blockbusters” have been released).
The idea is you predict top 10 grossing summer blockbuster movies. You can have 3 dark horses. And you get different points based on if you get no.1/no.10 correct, movie is in top 10, one away etc.
You may be wondering what makes a movie a “summer blockbuster”. They’ve decided is a movie thats released between 4th May and 4th September. So it does not include The Super Mario Bros. Movie or Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania which are currently both in top 10. The Super Mario Bros. Movie actually is top.
The /Film podcast “Summer Movie Wager” is based on the US domestic box office so for ease I will do the same – and can then compare scores to them on the Summer Movie Wager web site which has their predictions and tracks the scores.

- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem
- Transformers: Rise the Beasts
Update: I did pretty bad in my predictions. Did not anticipate Barbie and Oppenheimer doing as well as they did. Thought Indiana Jones and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 would do much better. And Fast X and The Flash to do better too.
