Review: GRUB at Mayfield (street food fair)
Somehow its taken until now till I have write a review about GRUB. I have been many times – both in its current location, its previous base in Alphabet Brewery) and also when they were less regular (something like once a month) and based, at its original home, at Runaway Brewery. GRUB is now located at Mayfield Depot – a former railway station. Its located just a few minutes from Manchester Piccadilly.
(Just heard that GRUB will be “back” at Runaway for some supper clubs – Runaway for Supper will be a four course feast (from some Manchester street food traders) matches with Runaway beers).
Every weekend (Friday to Sunday), there are about 6 different street food vendors and GRUB also serving drinks including beers from local breweries. To find out what vendors are coming, keep an eye out on their social media such as their Twitter page and Instagram. If you regularly go to street food events around Manchester, you will be familiar with some of the vendors such as Nasi Lemak (delicious satay, rendang, sambal goodness from the one and only Jimmy), What’s Your Beef (the best burgers in Manchester! Maybe anywhere!), Holy Crab, Oh My Glaze and Ottomen (to name just a few).
When summer is “over”, which seems to have been for about a week now!, they will be moving to their “Winter venue” – which I believe is still in the Mayfield Depot somewhere.
Wheelchair users should be aware about the floor. The area is a mixture of cobbles and rough ground/gravel/stones so this may be an issue for you. (The bar area is flat concrete).
Recommend going to GRUB! Its a great place to go with friends and family, good food and drink and nice family friendly atmosphere – especially when the sun is shining. But even if it isn’t, don’t worry, as there is lots of cover!
Also, every Sunday is their “Plant Powered Sunday” where all the food and drink is vegan friendly. Its the only weekly vegan street food event in Europe! And even if you’re not a vegan (or vegetarian), like me, there is still good tasty food – and drink.
